Free started all 51 games for the Tigers. He notched a season-high three RBI twice and tied his career-high four hits twice. Was tied for first on the team with 28 RBI and finished third on the team in batting average at .283. The sophomore tallied 53 hits with seven home runs, one triple, six doubles, and 32 runs scored. In conference, he finished in the Top-20 in on-base percentage (.394), RBIs (28), and runs scored (32). Free finished in a six-way tie for 10th for home runs (7). Defensively, he led the conference in runners picked off with five and finished in the Top-20 for fielding percentage at .991.
Free had a standout Freshman year and proved to be an integral component to the Tigers. He was named to the Freshman All-American team, All-West Coast Conference Second Team as well as the All-Freshman Team. Free hit .343 this past season while leading the West Coast Conference regular season in home runs (14) and runs batted in (54). The Walnut, Calif. native also ranked 25th in the NCAA in slugging percentage at a .652 clip while pacing the team in hits (62) and on base percentage (.471). He led all WCC catchers in home runs, extra base hits, total bases, slugging percentage, RBI, batting average, and OPS during the regular season. Free was the WCC freshman leader in batting average, slugging percentage, on base percentage, homers, RBI, doubles and total bases.
Free was named MVP while playing for the La Verne Spartans in the Baseline League. He also garned Rawlings-Perfect Game All-American Honorable Mention and All-Region Second Team status for his accomplishments, which included hitting .400.
Free is the son of Jim and Aurora Free. He comes to Pacific from Walnut, California and is majoring in business. Free's uncle Javi played baseball in high school and college as well.
