Tigers open preseason practices today

With the 2019 Pacific baseball season just over a month away, the boys of spring are set to return to Klein Family Field today with the official start of practice.

Pacific is set to break in 16 new players this season and return 22 other players that saw game action in 2018. Returners for 2019 include junior catcher James Free II, sophomore infielder Alex LeForestier and Ryan Shreve, who had the highest ERA on the team in 2018 behind Shelby Lackey and Cooper Casad who both went on to play professional baseball

Head coach Ryan Garko and his staff also return for their second year at the helm of the program and are tasked with figuring out how the pieces fit together to form the best lineup possible from the turned over roster. That task starts with practice today as long as weather permits. Garko and the Tigers will work on their trade leading up to the start of the 2019 season on Feb. 15 when the Tigers host Chicago State at 6 p.m.

Tiger baseball invites fans to come out and get a sneak peek at the team on Jan. 27 when Pacific hosts its Baseball and Softball Fan Fest on Jan. 27. Fans are invited to join the teams for a day full of fun. There will be free pizza, games and an autograph session with both teams. Each fan that attends will receive two ticket vouchers to for two baseball and softball home games. There is also a free clinic for children ages 5-11. Enrollment in the clinic is limited to the first 125 children who sign up.

All attendees to the Fan Fest on Jan. 27 are invited to stick around to watch the Tiger baseball's intrasquad scrimmage to get an early look at the 2019 team.
