SERIES NOTES...

Last time out...
The Tigers took on Sacramento State in a four-game series winning three games over a team that won 35 games in 2018. The Tigers dominated in the season opener 11-3 and used its bullpen to take a 6-3 win in game two. The Tigers bounced back from their first loss of the season on Saturday with a 6-2 win on Sunday to take the series.

Best start ever...

Pacific's 7-1 start to the season ties the best start in program history through eight games. The 2000 Tigers went 7-1 on their way to a 10-2 start through 12 games. If the Tigers go undefeated this weekend, it will be the first 11-1 start in program history. Two losses would make it the fourth 10-2 start ever.

Super senior...
Of all of Pacific's everyday players, no one has had a hotter start than redshirt senior Nate Verlin. He leads the Tigers in batting average among players with at least 10 at-bats at .400 and is tops on the team in RBIs with 8. He is also the only Tiger so far this year to hit for the season cycle with a homer, triple, double and single.

Lights out...
Pacific's pitching has been a huge factor in the team's 7-1 start. As a staff, the Tigers hold a 2.15 Earned Runs Average and are holding opposing hitters to a .205  average. The Tigers have struck out 80 batters and walked just 24 for a strikeout to walk ratio of 3.33 to 1.

New Dawn...
While the team's start in outstanding, its even more special when you look at where the team stood this time last year. Through eight games in 2018, Pacific was 3-5 and didn't pick up their seventh win until March. 9, 15 games into the season. At the point, the Tigers have scored 53, a feat it didn't achieve until the 14th game last year.

Garko Era: Year Two...
Pacific head coach and former major-leaguer, Ryan Garko, enters his second season at the helm of the program this year. He and his staff helped guide the Tigers to a four-win improvement overall and a five-win improvement in West Coast Conference play. 2019 ushers in a new season as well as Garko's first recruiting class, which looks to make a mark this season.

Free-peat...
Junior catcher James Free II was named as a West Coast Conference Preseason Team member prior to the start of the season. He is coming off of a season in which he hit .283 with seven homers and 28 RBI. He will look to repeat as an All-WCC Postseason selection again this year.

Scouting the Redhawks...
Offensively, Seattle is the best team Pacific will face so far. The Redhawks are hitting .344 with 49 runs scored and a are reaching base at a clip of .412. Chase Wells' .407 average leads Seattle's hitters with at least 10 at-bats while Justin Mazzone is hitting .357 with 11 RBIs. It's pitching solid as well. The Redhawk hurlers are led by Jake Prizina who is 2-0 and is yet to allow a run through 14 innings. He's struck out 10 and walked two. He will face the Tigers as the team's Friday starter.
