SERIES NOTES...

Last time out...

Pacific took two out three games against Seattle at home last weekend making it three-straight won series for the Tigers. Ryan Shreve continued his early season dominance with a win and his third quality start of the season while James Free plated five RBIs and hit .500.

Best start ever...

After the Tigers' win over Seattle on Saturday this edition of the Tigers became the first ever to start the season 9-1. With a win on Thursday, this edition of the Tigers will become fourth to go 10-2 through the first 12 games.

The week's best

Junior catcher James Free earned his first West Coast Conference Player of the Week honor on Monday for his efforts in the Tigers series victory over Seattle. It was Pacific's first Player of the Week selection since 2016. Free hit .500 with five RBIs, which included a towering three-run home run on Saturday. He's riding a five-game hit-streak right now and has had at least two hits in the last four games.

Super senior

Redshirt senior Nate Verlin is a tear to start his final season. He's hitting .303 with 10 RBIs, both marks are second on the team for Pacific. He's crossed the plate eight times and has drawn six walks. He's the only Tiger to hit for the season cycle so far with a home run, a triple, a double and a singe.

New Dawn...

While the team's start in outstanding, it's even more special when you look at where the team stood this time last year. Through 11 games in 2018, Pacific was 4-7 and didn't pick up their ninth win until March 30, 25 games into the season.

Garko Era: Year Two...

Pacific head coach and former major-leaguer, Ryan Garko, enters his second season at the helm of the program this year. He and his staff helped guide the Tigers to a four-win improvement overall and a five-win improvement in West Coast Conference play. 2019 ushers in a new season as well as Garko's first recruiting class, which looks to make a mark this season.

Best mid-majors in California?

This weekend's series at Cal Baptist is between potentially the two hottest mid-major teams in the state. CBU is off to a 9-3 start but dropped its last three games to UC Riverside. The Tigers are 9-2. No other mid-majors in California currently have nine wins except for San Diego, which is 9-4. Two Big West programs are worth mentioning. UC Santa Barbara is off to an 8-2 start and UC Irvine is 7-3.

Scouting the Lancers...

If last week the Tigers had to worry about a potent offense, the tables have turned this week. Cal Baptist's pitching has been lights out and boasts a 2.48 ERA. Each starter that Pacific faces this weekend boasts a sub-4.00 ERA and all but one has a winning record. The Lancers' hitting is strong too with a team batting average of .291. Luke Navigato leads the way with .431 batting average. He and Ryan Mota both have 12 RBIs to tie the team lead.
