GAME NOTES

Last time out...

Pacific split a two-game mid-week series with Air Force on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Tuesday, the Tigers used a strong start from junior left-handed pitcher Tommy Costello and a combined 15 strikeouts from three Tiger pitchers to a win. On Wednesday, the Tigers took an early 2-0 lead before allowing six-unanswered runs in the loss.

On a tear...

Junior catcher James Free leads the Tigers in batting average at .367, RBIs with 18, on base percentage at .426, doubles with nine and hits with 36. His 36 hits are good for 54th in the nation. He is also in top-100 in doubles per game and hits per game. His 4 sac flies lead the WCC and is 19th in the nation.

Record chasing...

Free's two run home run against Air Force moved him into fifth all-time on Pacific's all-time home runs list with 27. It was also his 99th and 100th RBI, which is good for 12th all-time at Pacific.

Pacific Pitching...

Six Tigers that have pitched in at least 5.0 innings this year boast an ERA under 3.00. Junior Nick Swanson hasn't allowed an earned run in 15.2 innings of work from the pen. He's got four saves. Henrik Reinertsen's 1.98 ERA through 13.2 innings of work also comes from the bullpen. Hayden Pearce has started four games and has a 1.20 ERA. Ryan Shreve's dominance out the mound has led to a 2.20 ERA in a team-leading 41.0 innings of work. Freshman Michael Defelippi's work from the pen has been limited, but he boasts a 2.57 ERA in 7.1 innings. Junior righty David Rajeski carries a 2.61 ERA in 10.1 innings of work.

Shutout the lights...

Nick Swanson has embraced the role of closer. He notched his fourth save on Tuesday against Air Force, good for 16th in a single-season. Eight will move him into second in single season history. If he gets to 12, he'll hold the record.

A tale of two outs...

Two out situations have both hurt and helped the Tigers so far this year. On the offensive side, Pacific has scored a combined total of 33 runs on 26 separate two-out occasions.

Defensively, the Tigers have allowed 52 runs in 22 separate two-out occasions.

Happy to be home...

Pacific is 8-3 this year at Klein Family Field. A win this weekend over Pepperdine will be Pacific's first win in a WCC game this year

Garko Era: Year Two...

Pacific head coach and former major-leaguer, Ryan Garko, enters his second season at the helm of the program this year. He and his staff helped guide the Tigers to a four-win improvement overall and a five-win improvement in West Coast Conference play. 2019 ushers in a new season as well as Garko's first recruiting class, which looks to make a mark this season.

Scouting the Waves...

Pepperdine enters the weekend series on a 7-1 run through their last eight games which two series wins over San Diego and Gonzaga as well as a win over Minnesota.

Two Waves are hitting better than .350 in Quincy McAfee and Wyatt Young. McAfee has 20 runs scored with a .367 average. Young is hitting .352 with 18 RBI.

Of the starters that the Tigers know they'll face, Jonathan Pendergast and Cooper Chandler both boast sub-3.00 ERAs. Chandler has a tiny WHIP of .95.
