GAME NOTES

Last time out...

After a game on Sunday in which the Tigers tacked 13 runs on Pepperdine, the 23rd team in the nation in RPI, the Tigers tallied just three hits and no runs in a mid-week loss to UC Davis on Tuesday. The win for the Aggies evened the season-series with the Tigers at 1-1. The two teams meet again next Tuesday.

On a tear...

Junior catcher James Free leads the Tigers in batting average at .348, RBIs with 22, doubles with 10 and hits with 39. His 39 hits are good for 54th in the nation. He is ranked 48th in the nation in doubles.

Pacific Pitching...

The Tiger hurlers have been a bright spot this year. Six Tigers that have thrown at least seven innings boast sub-3.00 ERA's. Pacific's pitchers are 37th in the nation in walks per nine innings. The staff's strikeout-to-walk ratio of 2.42 is the 54th best in the nation. The staff WHIP of 1.34 is 63rd in the nation.

Individually, Ryan Shreve is 20th in the nation in complete games with two. Shreve is top-50 in WHIP and walks per nine innings. He and Ricky Reynoso are tied for 19th in the nation with 7 starts.

Reynoso is 66th in the nation in strikeouts and 80th in strikeouts per nine innings.

Shutout the lights...

Nick Swanson has embraced the role of closer. He notched his fifth save on Saturday against Pepperdine, good for 8th in a single-season. Eight will move him into second in single-season history. If he gets to 12, he'll hold the record. His 5 saves are 50th best in the nation

Top-100 program...

Pacific's two wins over Pepperdine, which was 23rd in the nation last week in RPI, bumped the Tigers up from 118th to 100th in NCAA RPI. RPI, which stands for Rating Percentage Index, is the true barometer for national rankings in the NCAA. It takes into account a team's wins, losses, strength of schedule and opponent's strength of schedule.

The Tiger Way...

Pacific has found ways to generate offense this year and its been done by playing small ball. The Tigers lead the nation in sac bunts with 23. 46 times the Tigers have gotten on base by getting hit by a pitch, good for 26th in the nation. Keaton Glover, Kevin Sandri and Carter Hayes all rank inside the top-100 in the nation in sac bunts laid down.

Garko Era: Year Two...

Pacific head coach and former major-leaguer, Ryan Garko, enters his second season at the helm of the program this year. He and his staff helped guide the Tigers to a four-win improvement overall and a five-win improvement in West Coast Conference play. 2019 ushers in a new season as well as Garko's first recruiting class, which looks to make a mark this season.

Scouting the Bulldogs...

The defending West Coast Conference champions are trying to find their footing through the first half of the year. When it comes to wins and losses, Gonzaga is floating right around .500, but they've played a tough schedule with nine of their games coming against power-five teams.

Two weeks ago, the Bulldogs dropped a series to Pepperdine, one game to two. The Tigers took two out of three against the Waves last weekend.
