GAME NOTES

Last Weekend...

Pacific dropped its first home series of the season to San Francisco two games to one after back-to-back losses to close the series. The Tigers won game one 13-6 and lost the next two 6-3 and 9-4.

Ryan Shreve's no-hitter...

Junior pitcher Ryan Shreve dealt just the fourth no-hitter in program history on Sunday at Santa Clara. He struck out nine and only allowed a base-runner by way of a hit by pitch. He retired 27 of the 28 batters he faced.

For his efforts, he was named NCBWA Player of the Week as well as the West Coast Conference Player of the Week and was a finalist for the @d1baseball Golden Spikes Performance of the Week. He finished third in the Twitter voting.

It was the first no-hitter for a Pacific pitcher since D.J. Houlton threw one in May of 2001 against UC Riverside. Houlton went on to pitch for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

It was one of two no-hitters in the NCAA two weekends ago. Saint Louis' Cody Luther threw a two-walk no-no on Saturday to St. Bonaventure.

Potent Pitching...

Tiger pitching has been outstanding this year. The staff ranks in the top-100 in:

  • Walks per nine innings - 28th (3.36)
  • WHIP - 58th (1.35)
  • Strikeout-to-walk ratio - 56th (2.36)
  • ERA - 72nd (4.08)
  • Shutouts - 91st (2)

Individually Tigers are ranked:

Shutout the lights...

Nick Swanson has embraced the role of closer. He notched his fifth save on Saturday 3/30 against Pepperdine, good for 8th in a single-season. Eight will move him into second in single-season history. If he gets to 12, he'll hold the record. His 5 saves are 50th best in the nation. Swanson finally allowed his first earned run on Saturday against San Francisco. he carried a perfect ERA through 13 appearances and 19.0 innings of work.

The Tiger Way...

Pacific has found ways to generate offense this year and its been done by playing small ball. The Tigers are third in the nation in sac bunts with 41. 62 times the Tigers have gotten on base by getting hit by a pitch, good for 22nd in the nation. Keaton Glover and Kevin Sandri rank inside the top-25 in the nation in sac bunts laid down.

Twin-Killings...

The Tigers have turned into a prominent double play threat up the middle. Pacific has turned 31 this year, good for the 50th most in the nation. In double plays per game, the Tigers are 68th in the nation, averaging 0.79 a contest.

Garko Era: Year Two...

Pacific head coach and former major-leaguer, Ryan Garko, enters his second season at the helm of the program this year. He and his staff helped guide the Tigers to a four-win improvement overall and a five-win improvement in West Coast Conference play. 2019 ushers in a new season as well as Garko's first recruiting class, which looks to make a mark this season.
