GAME NOTES

Well Rested...

The Tigers are looking to snap a six-game skid this weekend at San Diego and are doing so as the most rested team in the nation. Pacific has not played since April 27 and wraps up a 12-day break on Friday night- It is the longest scheduled break in the NCAA this season. North Dakota State enjoyed a 15-day break from March 1 to March 16, but six games were canceled during the stretch.

The Tigers used the hiatus to focus on finals, which are now behind the team leaving just baseball to focus on.

Among the best...

Junior catcher James Free was included in this week's D1baseball.com Power Rankings at No. 14 in the nation's best catchers. The switch hitter is hitting .349 with 8 home runs, 33 RBIs and 12 doubles. All four statistics lead Pacific. Defensively, he's fielding at a .997% clip and has thrown out 21 runners trying to steal.

Freshman Spark...

Freshman outfielder James Arakawa has turned into a staple for the Tigers in recent weeks. He's settled in nicely into the leadoff spot for the Tigers and has reached safely in 14-straight games; the longest streak for the Tigers this season. In the stretch, he's hitting .345 with two doubles, six walks, two hit-by-pitches and a .422 on-base percentage.

The Tiger Way...

Pacific has found ways to generate offense this year and its been done by playing small ball. The Tigers are fourth in the nation in sac bunts with 45. 67 times the Tigers have gotten on base by getting hit by a pitch, good for 39th in the nation. Keaton Glover and Kevin Sandri rank inside the top-30 in the nation in sac bunts laid down.

Ryan Shreve's no-hitter...

Junior pitcher Ryan Shreve dealt just the fourth no-hitter in program history on Sunday, April 14 at Santa Clara. He struck out nine and only allowed a base-runner by way of a hit by pitch. He retired 27 of the 28 batters he faced.

For his efforts, he was named NCBWA Player of the Week as well as the West Coast Conference Player of the Week and was a finalist for the @d1baseball Golden Spikes Performance of the Week. He finished third in the Twitter voting.

It was the first no-hitter for a Pacific pitcher since D.J. Houlton threw one in May of 2001 against UC Riverside. Houlton went on to pitch for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

More on Shreve...

The Tiger righty ranks in the top-100 in the nation in:

WHIP - 7th (0.84)

Complete Games - 8th (3)

Walks allowed per nine innings - 15th (1.26)

Strikeouts to walk ratio - 42nd (5.30)

Hits allowed per nine innings - 54th (6.31)

Garko Era: Year Two...

Pacific head coach and former major-leaguer, Ryan Garko, enters his second season at the helm of the program this year. He and his staff helped guide the Tigers to a four-win improvement overall and a five-win improvement in West Coast Conference play. 2019 ushers in a new season as well as Garko's first recruiting class, which looks to make a mark this season.
