Spokane, Wash. - The Pacific men's basketball team dropped an 85-67 decision at No. 12 Gonzaga on Saturday, Dec. 1. The Tigers dropped to 3-4 with the loss, while Gonzaga improved to 8-0. The teams will meet as league opponents in the West Coast Conference in the 2013-14 season.
The Tigers scored the first six points of the game, as juniors Ross Rivera and Sama Taku and senior Lorenzo McCloud each scored a basket in the opening minutes. Gonzaga evened it up at 8-8 on a three-point play by Elias Harris. A pair of three-pointers by senior Travis Fulton in a 10-2 run gave Pacific an 18-10 lead with 13:00 left in the half. Kelly Olynyk scored four points in an 11-2 Gonzaga run that gave the Bulldogs their first lead of the game at 21-20 with 8:25 to play. Holding a two point lead (29-27), Gonzaga went on a 19-4 run to take a 48-31 lead and led 49-34 at the break.
Midway through the second half, Gonzaga pushed the lead to 22 (67-45) after an 11-4 run. With the Bulldogs leading 72-50, senior Rodrigo De Souza hit a pair of three-pointers as part of eight points in a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 72-59 with 5:48 to play in the game. Gonzaga pushed the lead back to 20 (81-61) before settling for the 18 point win.
Fulton led the Tigers with 15 points, while McCloud added 14 points and junior Trevin Harris scored 11. Sam Dower led the Bulldogs with 18 points.
The Tigers shot 46.9% from the field, while hitting 10 of 19 three-point shots (52.6%). Gonzaga finished at 47.5% from the field, but had 14 offensive rebounds that were converted into 15 second chance points. The Bulldogs held a 39-25 rebounding advantage.
Pacific is next in action with a home game against Nevada on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 7:00 p.m.
