Stockton, Calif. – The Tiger men's basketball team defeated Cal Maritime 80-42 on Friday, Dec. 21 at the Alex G. Spanos Center. The Tigers improved to 6-6 with the victory.
The Tigers started fast with a 15-7 lead in the first six minutes, getting four points from senior Lorenzo McCloud and seven points from junior Sama Taku in the opening run. Leading 24-16, Pacific outscored the Keelhaulers 16-2 over the next six minutes to take a 40-18 lead with 2:17 to play. Junior Tim Thomas scored all seven of his first half points in the final 8:30 of the half. The Tigers shot 55.2% in the first half, including 15-19 (78.9%) from inside the three-point line.
Pacific started the second half on a 11-2 run, taking a 53-25 lead with 14:30 left in the game. A layup Cal Maritime's Howie Manzo made it 53-27, but six straight points including four from McCloud took the Tiger lead over 30 for the first time (59-27) with 13:01 to play. A layup by senior Jordan Turner gave Pacific its largest lead (78-39) with just over a minute to play.
McCloud led five Tigers in double figures with 14 points. Taku added 13 points and senior Travis Fulton scored 11 points. Juniors Tony Gill and Tim Thomas each scored a career-high 11 points, while Thomas led all players with a career-best eight rebounds.
Pacific shot a season-high 58.2% from the field, while scoring a season-high 80 points. The Tigers hit 32 of 39 shots inside three-point range, where they were just 2-16. With 48 points in the point and a 46-25 rebounding advantage, Pacific dominated the Keelhaulers inside. Cal Maritime, 10-4 on the year, was led by Keven Campbell's 13 points.
Pacific is next in action with a road game at Long Beach State on Saturday, Dec. 29 at 4:00 p.m. The game will be televised nationally by Fox Sports Prime Ticket and Fox College Sports.
