Luke Wicks joined the Pacific men’s basketball staff as an assistant coach in April of 2016 and begins his third season in 2018-19. Wicks has responsibilities in areas of recruiting, academics, compliance, skill development and scouting.
During his time at Pacific, Wicks helped guide Pacific to its highest finish in the West Coast Conference (fourth) and most league wins (nine) since rejoining the conference in 2013.
As the programs’ recruiting coordinator, Wicks helped sign and develop the 2018 WCC Defensive Player of the Year, along with a 2ndteam All-Conference selection in 2018. Since his arrival, Pacific has had five players receive awards for their play in the WCC. Along with these achievements on the floor all nine seniors in the program the past two years have graduated.
Prior to joining the Tigers’ staff, Wicks spent six seasons at the University of San Francisco under Rex Walters. He served as Associate Head Coach for the final three seasons of his time on the Hilltop, while also acting as the program’s recruiting coordinator and defensive coach.
During his tenure with the Dons, Wicks helped to sign and develop 12 All-West Coast Conference selections. While at USF, Wicks enjoyed 104 wins and three post-season births including an NIT appearance in 2013. In 2013-14, USF compiled its most wins (21) since the 1981-82 season and its most conference victories (13) since the 1976-77 campaign.
Before his time at San Francisco, Wicks was the top assistant coach at Sheridan (Wyoming) Junior College from 2018-2010. Wicks was the Generals’ defensive coordinator and was in charge of individual skill development workouts, opponent scouting, recruiting the Midwest & East Coast, team travel, camps and clinics, program promotion and strength & conditioning.
In two years, he helped the Generals post an overall record of 53-14 and capture two North Sub-Region IX titles and one Wyoming Conference Title. The Generals advanced to the Region IX Final 4 twice and appeared in the 2010 championship game. Wicks also helped develop two NJCAA All-Americans, four All-Region IX selections, four All-Conference selections and one First-Team defense selection.
During his 10 plus years of coaching at Sheridan College, San Francisco, and Pacific, Wicks has helped recruit, develop, & coach 26 players sign to play professional basketball after they finished their collegiate careers.
Wicks played collegiate basketball at Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota under the legendary Don Meyer, one of the all-time winningest coaches in NCAA history. In four years at Northern State, Wicks accumulated a record of 101-25. During that span he won two NSIC Conference Tournaments and played in three NCAA Division II National Tournaments, including two trips to the Sweet 16. Wicks earned Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference honors as a senior and was a four-time NSIC All-Academic selection.
Wicks earned his undergraduate degree in fitness management in 2006 and went on to earn his master’s degree in education with an emphasis on health, physical education and coaching in 2008 from Northern State.
