Tigers Sit In The Middle Of The Pack At The OGIO Utah Invitational

Park City, Utah - Playing in the mountains of Utah, the Tigers finished the opening 36 holes of play at the OGIO Utah Invitational in a tie for fifth overall on Monday, Oct. 6. Pacific ended the day at +20 as a team, 13-shots behind Santa Clara which took the lead into the clubhouse at the end of the day.

Overall, it was a rough day on the course for the Tigers and the field in general as the course at The Jeremy Golf and Country Club played long and tough in the cool mountain air of Park City. Opening the day, the Tigers posted an eight-over, 363 to put themselves in contention after 18-holes. However, while the Tigers stayed relatively steady in round two with a +12, the Broncos were able to push ahead of the field and create separation with a +1, 355.

Unlike most college tournaments in the country, the OGIO Utah Invitational played six golfers with five counting towards the final score of the round.

Individually, the Tigers were led by senior Drew Bender who finished the first two trips around the course in a tie for 12th place as he shot +2, 144 for the day. Bender shook off a difficult start to his senior season with his showing on day one of the invitational as he posted an even-par, 71, in the first round before going two-over in round two. Not far behind the senior, the rest of the Tigers came in evenly spaced at one shot apart beginning with sophomore SeungJae Maeng at +3. Maeng's 73 and 72 in back-to-back rounds put the sophomore into a tie for 16th on the leaderboard.

The overall tournament lead was held by Southern Utah's Nic Booth who went five-under for the day after two rounds in the 60s.

Pacific will close out play in Utah on Tuesday, Oct. 7 when the team tees off for round three beginning at 9:00 am MT.
