SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The Pacific men's soccer team fell to host San Francisco 3-0 on Wednesday night, concluding regular season road action. Curtis Goldsmith made three saves in the effort, while Collin Bettencourt led the Tigers with a pair of shots on the night.
The loss drops Pacific to 11-4-1 this season, 3-2-1 in West Coast Conference play, while the victory levels San Francisco at 8-8 overall, 5-1 in WCC action.
The Tiger backline was pressured early as the Dons drove the ball down the field in the 18th minute and took two quick shots that were blocked by the sea of orange defenders. The hosts took a 1-0 lead in the 26th as Leon Schwarzer converted far post off a set piece off the foot of Matt Orr from outside the box. Right before the end of the first half the Tigers pressured as Tristan Blackmon crossed the ball over from the right side into the box to find Collin Bettencourt in front of the goal, but his shot went just high of the crossbar.
San Francisco widened their lead in the 49th minute on a header by Aaron Lombardi off a free kick sent in that got past the diving Curtis Goldsmith. The Orange and Black continued the offensive pressure with a shot by Diego Villapudua midway through the second half, however the Don defense continued their strong performance to hold the shutout. San Francisco would add one more goal in the 77th minute on another header by Lombardi to bring the score to 3-0.
The Tigers wrap up regular season action this Saturday as they host Gonzaga at 7 PM. Admission is free for all fans and the first 250 fans in attendance will receive a free Pacific Tiger seat cushion.
