Groenendijk and Verstraaten both earned First-Team honors to go with their All-WCC First Team All-Conference selections earlier this month while Gomez and Hoel both picked up Honorable Mention honors. To be eligible, a player must carry a 3.2 GPA while playing in at least half of the team's scheduled contests while also being a starter or significant reserve player. Only student-athletes that have attended Pacific for a full year are eligible for WCC All-Academic honors.
Both Verstraaten and Groenendijk earned spots on the All-Academic First Team in 2017 while Gomez and Hoel both made their first appearances on the list as Honorable Mentions. Saint Mary's and Pacific were tied for the most First Team selections with two apiece.
Verstraaten made the team for the second-straight year and earned COSIDA Academic All-District honors earlier this month making him eligible to be a COSIDA Academic All-American. Verstraaten started in all 18 games this year and scored one goal on his way to a WCC First Team selection and WCC Defensive Player of the Year honors. He carries a 3.80 GPA in business administration.
Groenendijk played in 17 games and started 16 in Pacific's defensive line while accumulating three assists on the year. His play on the season earned him WCC All-Conference honors for the first time and this is his second appearance on the All-Academic list. He has a 3.81 GPA in business administration.
Gomez played in 12 games and started 11 in goal for the Tigers posting five shutouts, and making 26 saves. He manned the net in Pacific's win at Stanford making a season-high five saves and earned a win against No. 11 Portland. He didn't allow a goal in three-straight games from September 11 to the 20th. Gomez has a 3.42 GPA in Civil Engineering.
Hoel became a regular in Pacific's lineup down the stretch when he started in the final six games of the team's regular season run to the NCAA Tournament. In total, he played in 12 games this year and started in six while taking two shots while playing primarily in a defensive role. He has a 3.58 GPA in business administration.
