LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. – Johnathan Lieu of the University of the Pacific men's tennis team fell in day three of the International Tennis Federation Futures on Sunday afternoon.
In Case You Missed It:
- Lieu fell in straight sets to his opponent Korey Lovett (USA) by a score of 6-4 and 6-2.
- Last year, Lieu fell in the second qualifying round of the ITF Futures by a score of 6-1 twice. He defeated his first opponent in two straight sets to advance to the second round before dropping in day two.
Coach Redondo's Comments:
"John played a strong first set and had some break opportunities late in the first set. But, as you'll get with one of the top college players in the country, those opportunities don't come often and you have to capitalize. The first three games of the second set were competitive and looked like the first set, but Korey stepped up and is a really good player. Super encouraging tournament and really pleased with our start in terms of clarity of the progress to make."
The Tigers will head to the Battle in the Bay Classic hosted by the University of San Francisco on Friday, September 21 through Sunday, September 23.
