Pacific men's tennis is back on the road this week as the Tigers head to Moraga for the Saint Mary's Invitational on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Last time out:
The Tigers headed north to the ITA Northwest Regionals in Seattle where freshman Philip Hjorth led the way for Pacific in a run to the individual tournament's quarterfinals where he fell to Oregon's Emmanuel Costa, 6-4, 6-1. To get there, Hjorth had to get through competitors from Washington, Cal, Fresno State and Eastern Washington.
Three Tiger juniors, Akram El Sallaly, John Horoz Gardner and Johnathan Lieu reached the third day of play through the consolation bracket. El Sallaly defeated Angus Bradshaw in three sets, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (4). Two weeks ago at the South Dakota State Invitational, El Sallaly won the consolation bracket. Horoz Gardner dropped his final match in the bracket to Gonzaga's Kyle Everly, 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (8). Lieu's run came to an end against Seattle's Ghazarayn 6-4, 6-2.
Hjorth and Lieu both have the week off. Ma and Sever both competed in their first collegiate tournaments in September at the UC Davis Invite. Both are in search of their first collegiate wins in singles play. Sever and junior Nathan Hampton picked up a doubles win on day two of the Aggie Invite.
Play at Saint Mary's starts tomorrow and continues through until Sunday.
