Tigers fall to UNLV, 4-3

Pacific men's tennis (2-4) battled all day long against a solid UNLV team (6-1), bit came up short in a 4-3 loss at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center.

With wins at No. 1 doubles from Tiger juniors Akram El Sallaly and Ross Watson and freshman Josef Southcombe and junior Nathan Hampton at No. 3 doubles, but couldn't carry momentum into singles play in the loss. Watson did pick up a win at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-4 over Richard Solberg and junior Tadiwa Chinamo won at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-4, to improve to 4-2 in singles this season. However, UNLV picked up wins in the other four singles matches of the day to pick up a victory on the road.

"Losing 4-3 at home when you are up five first sets never feels good," Redondo said. "We have a long way to go.  Every match we've played we have been in positions to win, which as a coach is what you are looking for.  However, to finish and execute the matches is what I am expecting us to be much better at for the upcoming weekend."

Pacific can regroup this week before hitting the road for two matches. Pacific takes on UC Irvine on Friday at 1 p.m. and then plays at New Mexico on Sunday at 1 p.m.
