Men's tennis falls to Cal, 4-0

Pacific men's tennis (3-8) opened a three-match road trip today against a tough Cal (5-5) team that entered the day coming off of back-to-back wins in matches against Arizona and Arizona State.

Pacific lost the doubles point with losses at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, but fought in singles. Losses on courts one, three and five for the Tigers clinched the match for Cal. The clincher came at No. 1 singles where senior Ross Watson fell 6-4, 6-3. The Tigers lost the first set in all six singles matches, but were building to force third sets in a few matches including at No. 2 singles where freshman Philip Hjorth lost a first set, 6-4, but was tied 3-3 in the second at the completion of the match. At No. 6 singles, freshman Josef Southcombe lost 6-0 in the first set but put up a fight in the second, he was down 5-4 when the match came to an end.

Pacific is back in action on Wednesday when the Tigers take on Boise State in the last non-conference match of the season prior to the start of West Coast Conference play on Friday at BYU.
