Tiger men fall to Santa Clara, 4-3

Pacific men's tennis returned to the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center today in search of its first West Coast Conference win but came up empty in a close 4-3 match with Santa Clara.

The Tigers started the match off on the right foot by taking the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. At No. 1 doubles, the defending West Coast Conference Doubles Team of the Week, juniors Tadiwa Chinamo and Akram El Sallaly kept rolling with their second-straight win to improve to 5-1 on the year with a 6-4 victory. At No. 2 doubles, junior Ross Watson and freshman Philip Hjorth won their match, 6-4.

In singles, Pacific got a win from Chinamo at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 7-6. Philip Hjorth won his match at No. 2 singles by a retirement from Jesus Barajas, to get the Tigers their second and third points of the match.

However, Santa Clara got wins on courts, one, four, five and six to clinch the match and give the Tigers their fifth-straight loss to move the team to 3-11 on the season. Watson battled on court one to try to earn the victory for Pacific but came up short in a three-set match, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.

Pacific is back at it tomorrow when the Tigers host San Francisco at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center in 1 p.m. match.
