Pacific falls in a close match, 4-3

Pacific men's tennis (4-13, 1-4 WCC) took on a solid Loyola Marymount team (5-10, 3-0 WCC) in the weekend conclusion on Saturday in Los Angeles, but came up short of a win in a 4-3 match.

The Tigers got out front early by taking the doubles point with wins on courts two and three, but went on to fall in four matches in singles to come up just short of a victory. Juniors Akram El Sallaly and Tadiwa Chinamo got wins in singles and junior Ross Watson and Philip Hjorth, as well as junior Nathan Hampton and freshman Josef Southcombe, got wins in doubles for the Tigers.

Pacific rolled to wins in doubles to start the day. On court two, Watson and Hjorth won 6-3 and Hampton and Southcombe won 6-4 to notch their second win as a team on court three.

In singles, Chinamo picked up a win on court two 6-3, 7-5. It was his fourth-straight win in singles. El Sallaly grabbed another win for the Tigers on court three in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. Pacific had an opportunity to get the win on court two as well as the match, but Hjorth fell in three sets, 7-6, 5-7, 6-4.

With just five matches to play, the Tigers return home to the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center next weekend for a West Coast Conference match with Saint Mary's on Saturday, April 6 at 1 p.m. On Sunday, the Tigers wrap-up the non-conference schedule with a match against Cal Poly that was rescheduled from earlier this year.
