Tigers Topped By Fresno State, 74-67

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pacific women's basketball team fell to Fresno State Saturday at Stockton Arena, 74-67. GeAnna Luaulu-Summers led the Tigers with 15 points, while Eli Lopez Sagrera scored a season-high 12, Callie Owens also chipped in 12 and Desire Finnie added 11.

Fresno State began the game with an 8-0 run and never trailed. Pacific and Fresno each turned in a hot shooting night from three-point range, as the Tigers hit 9-of-18 to start before missing three in the final seconds, while Fresno State connected on 9-of-18 from deep.

After the first 4:32 of the game, the Tigers played the Bulldogs even, but couldn't overcome the cold start. Fresno State opened to a 8-0 lead on five points from Kendra Martin before Queenland hit a three-pointer. The Bulldogs stretched the margin to 14-4 by hitting six of their first 10 field goal attempts.

Luaulu-Summers and Jessica Blakeslee hit back-to-back threes. Lopez Sagrera answered a Fresno State bucket with a turnaround jumper to bring Pacific with 16-12, but Breanne Knishka knocked down a three for the Bulldogs, as Fresno State led 24-16 after the first quarter.

In the second, Lopez Sagrera tallied again and Callie Owens drained a triple. After a stop on defense, Emily Simons hit a jumper as Pacific cut the margin to just one, at 26-25. After a pair of Fresno State free throws, Owens struck again from deep. Candice White hit back-to-back threes for the Bulldogs. Luaulu-Summers finished while being fouled, but Bego Faz Davalos answered. Queenland responded with a finish off a pass from Lopez Sagrera, but   Faz Davalos posted a lay-up on the Bulldogs' last possession for a 40-33 lead at halftime.

Fresno State scored 22 first half points in the paint, to the Tigers' 10. Pacific held a higher field goal percentage at .464 (13-of-28) to .457 (16-of-35), but the Bulldogs took advantage of a plus-three margin in turnovers (10-7) and rebounds (19-16).

Faz Davalos and Owens traded lay-ups to open the third. Tory Jacobs hit a three for Fresno State before Owens added a jumper. Knishka and Queenland traded three-pointers, while Lopez Sagrera scored inside to bring Pacific within 48-42. But Jacobs added another three pointer. Luaulu-Summers and Owens tallied back-to-back lay-ups, as the Tigers closed within five. But White added a lay-up and Jacobs hit a three as Fresno State used a 7-0 run to take a 58-46 lead. Luaulu-Summers hit a three from the corner before the end of the third.

Desire Finnie hit a triple from the wing to open the fourth. But Pacific missed seven straight shots enabling Fresno State to grow its lead to 67-54. Blakeslee hit a floater in the lane, and Luaulu-Summers added a fast break lay-in as the Tigers closed back within nine. Lopez Sagrera added a pair of free throws, but Fresno State maintained the margin from the free throw line until a three-pointer from Finnie brought Pacific within 72-67. However, Pacific came up empty on the next possession, and the Bulldogs hit a pair of free throws

Faz Davalos finished with 19 points, 17 rebounds and seven assists to lead the Bulldogs. Fresno State improved to 6-3 overall, while Pacific fell to 3-6 overall.

It was Pacific's first game in Stockton Arena, as the venue prepares to host the 2017 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship Stockton Regional, March 24-27.

The Tigers are back in action on December 19, at the Alex G. Spanos Center, against Northern Colorado.
