Conference Play Wraps Up For Field Hockey

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pacific field hockey team caps off their regular season home schedule this weekend as they host America East Conference foes #17 Stanford on Friday, October 20 at 3 p.m. and UC Davis on Sunday, October 22 at 2 p.m. Sunday's matchup will also feature Pacific's senior day for the five graduating seniors of the Pacific field hockey squad.

Over the weekend, the Tigers hosted California on Friday and topped the Golden Bears, 3-2 giving them their first conference loss of the season. Kriekie van Wyk, Emma Leach and Alicia Muinos all scored for the Tigers with Gaby de Kock, Ash Rutherford and Leach on the assists. On Sunday, the Orange and Black visited UC Davis where the Tigers had themselves a scoring frenzy as van Wyk recorded her second hat trick of the season, Savannah Burns added a pair of goals, and de Kock registered a goal. Pacific rolled over the Aggies, 6-1 and moved to 6-7 on the season and 2-2 in conference play.

The Tigers will look to even the score with Stanford after their previous 1-0 loss earlier this season. In the first meeting, Pacific had the shot on goal advantage over the Cardinal, but couldn't put one in the net.

The Cardinal are coming off a 4-2 upset by California as they moved to 1-1 in conference matchups. On the road, the Cardinal are 4-6 and sit at 8-6 overall. Stanford leads the conference in save percentage at 0.816 and are second in goals against average (1.51).

The Aggies are currently 1-13 overall and winless in the conference as they face California on Friday before heading to Stockton.

In the nation, Pacific ranks first in the conference and seventh in the nation for assists per game with 3.08, while coming in at second in the conference and 11th in the nation for points per game with 8.77.

Ash Rutherford continues to dominate in assists as she leads the conference in assists per game with 0.85. With her team leading 11 assists, she also boasts a national ranking of ninth. Not far behind Rutherford is senior captain, Leach who is averaging 0.69 assist per game, which is third in the conference and 17th in the nation.

Junior captain, van Wyk, added four goals to her stat line over the weekend which brings her to ring in at seventh in the country with 13 goals and 12th in the nation in points per game (2.31). The Pretoria, South Africa native was also awarded America East Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season for her performance against California and UC Davis.

Goalkeeper, Marlise van Tonder allowed only three goals over the weekend and recorded 11 saves for a save percentage of .789 between the two wins. On a national scale, van Tonder ranks 18th for saves per game average 6.69.
