SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – The Tigers' beach volleyball team finished 1-2 at the WCC/Big West Challenge, including a 5-0 sweep of Sacramento State Saturday afternoon.
Pacific is now 4-5 on the season.
The Tigers opened the day with a 5-0 loss to No. 6-ranked Cal Poly. Despite the sweep, three pairs pushed their respective matches to three sets. Katrin Gotterba and Alex Holt split the first two sets with the Mustang's Raeann Greisen and Hannah Hubbard by identical scores of 21-19, before falling 19-17 in the final set. Hanne De Schrijver/Ashlyn Fleming (17-21, 21-19, 6-15) and Skylar Wine/Kaitlyn Lines (15-21, 21-16, 12-15) also pushed their opponents to a third set.
Then in the early afternoon match with the Hornets four for the teams five pairs snagged straight-set victories, while Gotterba and Holt won their match by set scores of 21-9, 19-21, and 15-11.
In a final match against Cal State Northridge, Pacific struggled to snag the win, falling by a score of 4-1. Gotterba and Holt were the only two-some to snag a win en route to improving their season record to 7-2.
Next up for the Tigers are matchups against San Jose State and California next Saturday, March 17 in Berkeley, Calif.
