Las Vegas, Nev. - The Pacific women's tennis team fell 5-2 at UNLV Sunday despite victories from Viktoriya Dzyuba and Maayan Sela.

Pacific dropped the doubles point for the first time this season, as the Tigers entered 7-1 in doubles matches. Sela and Katie Dyson were topped 6-4 by Cristina Moroi and Reka Szentes. UNLV's Iren Kotseva and Paola Artiga  posted a 6-3 win over Yuki Asami and Anneroos Nederstigt. Dzyuba and Cristina Saenz de Buruaga Ruiz versus Carol Zi Yang and Aiwen Zhu went unfinished.

In singles action,  Zhu won at second singles over Crisitina Saenz de Buruaga Ruiz, 6-4, 6-1 as Pacific faces a 2-0 hole. At fourth singles, Sela  won in straight sets over Moroi,  6-4, 6-4 to put the Tigers on the board.

But Mercedes Lopez completed a fifth singles win over Asami, 6-3, 6-3 and at the sixth position, Szentes topped Sabrina Rodriguez, 6-4, 6-2, to clinch the match.

Dzyuba's first singles win over Zi Yang came by a score of 7-6, 6-3. But at third singles, Artiga rallied back to top Dyson in three sets, 6-7, 6-3, 6-2.

"Today was a tough battle for the Tigers," head coach Charlotte Scatliffe said. "We had a slow start in doubles due to some nerves, but that's to be expected with a young team early in the season. I am most pleased with how be bounced back and came out strong in singles. We showed our Tiger fight and everyone gave it their all, battling hard. Viktoriya Dzyuba and Maayan Sela both picked up big wins in their positions and had a great weekend, both going undefeated. I am very pleased with the team's efforts over the past three days and we are already getting geared up for our first WCC match of the season on Saturday in San Diego vs USD."
