Stockton, Calif. - After a stellar four-year career at Pacific, former Tiger standout Svenja Engelhardt has signed a contract with SVS Post Schwechat in Vienna, Austria to continue her playing career. SVS Post Schwechat is a member of Austria's First League as well as a participant in the European Cup.
Engelhardt will head to Austria on August 16th to beginning training for the 2011-12 season. The new year will begin in September and play through April. In addition to new beginnings, Engelhardt will see some old faces as she will team with former Long Beach State standout and Team USA member Alexis Crimes, who joined the team in 2010.
As a senior at Pacific, Engelhardt earned her first-ever all-region award as she was named an honorable mention honoree. In addition to her all-region honors, Engelhardt took home First Team All-Big West honors after finishing the season as the conference's top hitter. Putting Pacific's offense on her back for much of the season as the Tigers' lone senior, Engelhardt put together one of the finest single-season campaign's in Pacific program history. At the pins, Engelhardt posted an impressive 508 kills in 116 games to finish the year with a 4.38 kills per game average. The senior's per game average ranked No. 16 in the country and third in the region while ranking No. 1 among Big West attackers. Additionally, Engelhardt's 508 kills marked just the ninth time in program history a Tiger attack had hit the 500 kill plateau in a single campaign.
She finished her career among Pacific's all-time greatest players as she posted 1,386 career kills, No. 9 in Pacific's record books. Her 175 career aces ranks No. 2 on Pacific's all-time aces list while her 0.45 ace per game total tied for the all-time best per game average among Pacific servers.
Engelhardt graduated from Pacific in May of 2011 with a degree in biology.
