Tiger Volleyball Finishes 1-1 on Day One of UNC Classic

GREELEY, Colo. – The Pacific Women's Volleyball team, for the second-straight week, had a very strong showing to open tournament play, finishing 1-1 on the first day of the Hampton Inn and Suites UNC Classic on Friday.

Pacific (4-4) opened the day with a dominating win over Alabama State before falling to tournament-host Northern Colorado in the nightcap. 


In Case You Missed it:

Pacific 3, Alabama State 1

  • The Tigers took the set by scores of 25-19, 25-8, 21-25, and 25-14.
  • Kaitlyn Lines connected for seven of her 18 kills in the first set, hitting .214 to lead the Tigers.
  • Pacific took a quick 10-6 run against the Hornets and kept a considerable lead, reaching its largest gap at 16-9.
  • It was all Tigers in the second set as the Hornets never reached beyond single digits. As a team, they hit .312, led once again by Lines who was five-for-six in attack attempts and compiled a .833 hitting percentage. 
  • Alabama State rebounded nicely, holding the Tigers to a match-low .062 in the third set. After a tie score at 5-5 Alabama went on to win the next four points to pull away with a 9-5 lead. 
  • The Hornets extended their lead (15-6) in the third, following one kill and five-consecutive errors by Pacific. 
  • The Orange and Black came out in the fourth with a season-best .520 hitting percentage, recording 16 kills and committing just three errors in 25 attack attempts.
  • Riley Ramsey and Riley Patterson were perfect offensively both with three kills in the final set. Allison Dennemann was two-for-two.
  • Pacific claimed the set early, opening with a 15-6 run and then outscoring the Hornets 10-8 on the back end of the set.

Northern Colorado 3, Pacific 1

  • Despite claiming the first set by a score of 25-19, the Tigers dropped the following three sets, 21-25, 11-25, and 22-25.
  • In the first set the scoring went back and forth between the Tigers and Bears with a tie score on nine of the first 11 points.
  • Pacific went on a 6-2 lead that gave them a comfortable lead at 17-13 and despite the Bears claiming 8 of the final 14 points, Pacific secured the victory.
  • The Bears out-hit the Tigers .303 - .191, which included .353 in the second set and .500 in the third set.
  • In the final set the two squads matched up evenly in nearly every category, both hitting .225 and both with 13 kills. The Bears earned their edge in digs (20-19), service aces (3-2), and receiving errors (3-2).


Notable Performances:

vs. Alabama State

  • Kaitlyn Lines smashed 18 kills for the third time this season and hit .333, while also totaling five digs, two service aces and a block assist.
  • Gabby Leo had a match-high 22 assists.
  • Riley Ramsey recorded her second double-digit scoring performance of the season, totaling 11 kills. She hit .300 after committing just five errors in her 20 attempts.
  • Riley Patterson led from the back row, collecting 10 digs to go along with her five kills and three assists.

vs. Northern Colorado

  • Riley Ramsey matched two of Northern Colorado's players for a game-high 14 kills, her second-highest total this season. 
  • Kaitlyn Lines also secured another double-digit performance with 10 kills.
  • Hanne De Schrijver recorded a double-double with 16 assists and 10 digs.
  • Riley Patterson led her team's defensive efforts for the second-straight contest with 17 digs. 
  • Jadyn Tubbs also had double-digit digs, with 14 on the night.
