Stockton, Calif. - Continuing her playing career overseas, former Tiger standout Mallori Gibson (2009) signed a contract with the prestigious Olympiacos volleyball club in the Greek A1 Division. Gibson joined the team just three matches ago and has helped the team move into second place in the league, just one point behind the league leaders. Olympiacos volleyball was founded in 1930 while their women's team began play in 1992. As a club, Olympiacos is among one of the most successful teams in all of Europe.
Adjusting to European play, Gibson has played in three matches since her arrival with the club as she has helped lead Olympiacos to three straight wins. In just her second game in the A1 Division, Gibson provided an immediate spark on the outside as she posted 10 kills and one block while hitting .590 to led a two set comeback victory for Olympiacos. Recently, on February 4, Gibson and Olympiacos downed their rival AEK, winning in four sets to avenge an earlier season loss to the club.
Olympiacos is currently in action in league play as they contend for the Greek Championship against the top six teams in the A1 Division. Additionally, all 12 division teams are in action in the Greek Cup where Olympiacos will be in action against Iraklis Valley in the quarter-finals of the tournament. With a win the club will advance to the semi-finals for the Greek Cup which will be played in March while the finals of the cup will be contested in April.
Gibson finished her collegiate career at Pacific with back-to-back First Team All-Big West honors. For her career, Gibson finished with 694 kills in her two seasons with Pacific and 1,372 total kills in her collegiate career. Recently, Gibson took her talents to the national level where she captured the silver medal as a member of the Exterminators Independent Team at the USA Volleyball Open National Championships.
