Women's Water Polo Rolls To Two Wins In Michigan

Ann Arbor, Mich. - The Pacific women's water polo team cruised to a pair of wins to close the Wolverine Invitational Sunday, with a 10-1 win over Mercyhurst and a 20-5 drubbing of Notre Dame College. Gracie Smith, Brydie Pye and Rebecca Wright each tallied five goals on the day.

Chelsea Weir, Taylor Adair, Megan Torre, and Noelle Mann each scored three goals in the two games.

The Tigers carried a 3-1 lead over Mercyhurst in halftime, and outscored the Lakers 7-0 in the second half. Pye and Smith posted hat tricks in the contest, while Adair found the back of the net twice and Wright rounded out the scoring.

After grabbing a four-goal lead in the first quarter against Notre Dame College, the Tigers pulled away over the next three. Smith scored the first two goals of the game, Catie Mahnke and Weir put the Tigers up four, NDC answered with a pair of goals. But Mann answered and Adair beat the first quarter buzzer for a 6-2 lead.

Up 7-3 following a goal from Torre, the Tigers reeled off seven-straight scores. Torre, Mann, Weir, and Pye made it an 11-3 game before Weir completed the hat-trick in the third quarter. Mann's second goal stretched the lead to 10. Pye and Wright finished the quarter, and Wright added three more in the fourth, while Mann notched the hat-trick with a goal at the 4:45 mark.

Meghan Nee totaled 21 saves in goal, including 15 against Notre Dame College.

Pacific improves to 9-11 on the season and will return home for its second and third home games of the season on Saturday, taking on Azuza Pacific and Redlands next Saturday, starting at 11 am at Chris Kjeldsen Pool.
