STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pacific cross country program has signed Anna Martinez, Daniella Del Toro and Saira Purhar, head coach Josh Jones has announced today. The trio will join Pacific in the fall for the 2017-18 season.
Purhar (Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada) set a new personal record in the 5000m with a stellar 18:58, which helped her garner MVP recognition her junior year as well as the Most Outstanding Senior award this past year with the Coquitlam Cheetahs. Also a standout in the classroom, Purhar was named to the academic honor roll her junior and senior years at Burnaby Mountain Secondary School.
"Saira just started running the last couple of years and has a lot of potential." said boasted Jones. "She has put up some very strong times and we look forward to seeing her this Fall."
Martinez (Beaverton, Ore.) joins the Tigers from Aloha High School where she was a four-year letter winner for the Warriors. During her junior year she set a personal record in the 5000m with a time of 19:26.5, which would be a top-ten time in program history at Pacific. In the 3000m Martinez has a personal-best time of 10:44, which would be a top-five time at Pacific. In the classroom, Martinez was on the honor roll all four years in high school and is a four-time Scholastic Art Silver Key Award recipient.
"Anna is a very smart runner and she will be a very strong competitor for us," said head coach Josh Jones.
Del Toro (Woodbury, Minn.) is a six-year varsity runner at East Ridge High School. She boasts a 21.40 career-best time in the 5000m, which puts her on the "Top 25" list of fastest 5k times at her high school. In addition to being a standout runner for the Raptors, Del Toro was also a six-year alpine skier and lettered ten-times while being a four-sport varsity athlete.
"We are very excited to have Daniela join our team next year," added Jones." She has a lot of room for growth and her athleticism will make big gains."
